Une conférence sur la prospérité et le développement durable à Visby, sur l'île de Gotland, dans la mer Baltique (16 au 18 août 2006)
Cette conférence sur la coopération locale dans la région de la Mer Baltique rassemble les Premiers Ministres de Finlande (Matti Vanhanen), de Suède (Göran Persson) et de Lithuanie (Gediminas Kirkilas), ainsi que la Commissaire européenne pour la politique régionale (Danuta Hübner). Cette conférence est présidée par la Ministre suédoise pour la coopération et le développement international (Carin Jämtin).
Plus de 300 maires, élus locaux des rives de la Mer Baltique, hommes d'affaires et partenaires aux niveaux nationaux, internationaux et européens se rencontrent à Visby, sur l'île de Gotland.

Specially invited guest by the Prime Minister of Sweden Göran Persson are the Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, Lithuanian Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas and the European Commissioner for Regional Policy Danuta Hübner. More than 300 Mayors and other leaders of local and regional democratic institutions from the riparian States of the Baltic Sea and actors from the civil society and business communities and their strategic partners on the national, international and Europeans levels will meet in Visby, Sweden, for a joint Conference on "Prosperity and Sustainability - local and regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea region". 
The The aim of the conference is to help attune our joint efforts, create additional political momentum and contribute to the strengthening of local cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region. Discussions will focus on the two sub-themes "Securing a good and sustainable livelihood for citizens in the region", and "Promoting trade and investment in the region". The discussions are expected to produce ideas and input that can be passed on to institutions and organisations active in the region. The main themes of the conference are strengthening co-operation, environment, trafficking and trade.
